China today is in a communist state, it was developed on October 1st 1949, with Mao Zedong in charge. Political power is with the Chinese communist party. China’s current president and also general secretary of the CCP is Ju Jintao. China’s prime minister is Wen Jiabao. In November 2012, the Communist Party chose Xi Jinping as its new general secretary, and he will assume the presidency in March 2013. "China recognizes the CCP as the core leadership of the People's Republic and restores the largely ceremonial post of president as head of state." The Constitution from China guarantees minority rights and equal pay for equal work, and requires family planning and the payment of taxes. China's government is a lot different than it is in the United States, but some parts are better than others. China's citizens are not allow to strike or have a freedom of speech. You must be 18 years or older to vote just like in the US. (China Government)
Technology

Number of Cellphone users: 986.253 million (CIA)
Number of internet users: 389 million (CIA)
China is very strict when it comes to media, They own all broadcast media, there are no privately owned TV or radio stations. Although technology is blooming everywhere throughout the world, especially in China, their government still likes control over everything its citizens are viewing. The fact that they have no radio stations or TV channels that aren't checked and approved tells me that this country likes control over each little part. (CIA)

One big contribution China has made to the world is the products they make. In 2001, 2.7% of U.S. consumer spending went to products made in China, according to a study recorded by USA today. Without China making the products they do, the US would be missing a lot of money. In fact over half they money you spend on a product that says "made in china" goes back to the US.
