Music is very important to Chinese culture. It’s been around for thousands of years. They go for the more traditional types of instruments and songs. They use instruments like globular flute, pipa, erhu and they also have orchestras too. Even in the earliest times music in China was held to the highest esteem. It was an important part in three Chinese aspects. The festivals of the agricultural year, ceremonies linked to the imperial court, and religious rites. They believed music enhanced the harmony between heaven and earth. Even though the Chinese have a lot of rules when it comes the the notes they play, Chinese music is anything but dull. Its elements are melody and timbre. China's orchestras are very large with 150 people. (Knowles)

Traditional Chinese paintings are created by using a brush on paper or silk, usually with just black ink. This technique results in a monochrome style derived, perhaps, from calligraphy. The ink that's used is made from soot scented with musk and often decorated with detailed designs. One style of painting is what they call an "academic painting", which favors a natural approach in which birds and flowers were reproduced in perfect detail. Another is a more scholarly style that specializes in grand representations of nature, concentrating on mountings in particular, where reality is expressed to expose its essence. "The art of paint was to grasp reality, not merely the illusion of reality." (Knowles)
